The 89's

The 89s are *not* an 80’s tribute band. Or if they are, it’s filtered through a long, dusty lens of americana, power pop, and gritty guitar rock. They hail from Lyons, CO a tiny town with a big, joyful music scene. The 89s play the songs of singer / guitar player Eben Grace, whose writing influences swing wide from Costello pop to Dylan folk to Prince soul and any other song that’s been stuck in his head. He writes of characters with big dreams set to big melodies from big guitars - big enough to pull you in and fill your heart. Eben started playing early in bars around Colorado before completing a formal music degree. Bass and harmony singing is by Brian Schey, a composer / arranger / songwriter from CA, with a Berklee pedigree who loves to get his hands dirty on the 4 string. At the drums is Colin Mahoney, a multi-threat player / producer / studio pro hailing from the east coast via L.A. and Lawrence, KS. Joe Mazza joins on guitar and harmony singing and brings along heaps of golden-tone and Nashville session man class. Also in the fray is Ian “Beaver” Brighton, a supermusical, wide pocket keyboard man who originally made his mark in the Colorado jazz and samba scene. The 89s play it with soul and presence. From fist pumps lighters up to tear stained drained whiskey bottles, they always leave a little blood on the stage and leave you something to hum on the way home.
